We collect lots of items to recycle at our HQ. These can be brought along and we get some money in return. The following can be recycled:
- Old mobile phones – simply pop in a bag or the box in the HQ.
- Used printer ink cartridges – pop them in the box at the HQ or take an envelope from the HQ, put two cartridges in there and post them free of charge.
- Plastic bottle tops – any with the number 2 or 4 in a recycling triangle, milk and drinks bottle tops are ideal. There are collection points inside the Scout HQ.
- Clothing, shoes and towels – bagged and placed in the Rag Bag bin in the car park of our HQ. All of these are either resold or recycled, find out more on their website.
Second Hand Books
We have a diverse range of second hand books available to buy in our Scout HQ – simply come along whenever we’re open for an event and make a donation, no matter how big or small, although we’d recommend at least 20 pence per item.
At certain times of the year we also hold bigger second hand book sales to display them all in a more accessible way. They include children’s books, best-selling fiction and reference material all donated to the group.
We ask that those donating to us think carefully about the condition of books presented to us. Books that are damaged are unlikely to sell and may become a burden to our volunteers.
Sainsbury’s Active Kids
We’re part of the Sainsbury’s Active Kids voucher scheme.
Over the past few years we have managed to collect thousands of vouchers thanks to the amazing support of our parents and members of our local community. This allowed us to gain brand new sports and cooking equipment for all our sections to use so they can have an adventure.
This year, 2018, Sainsbury’s are re-thinking the Active Kids scheme and so the collecting of vouchers will cease. We will be listening closely to how the scheme changes and to see how we can continue to benefit from it.
